The Prairie View boys’ basketball team spent most of Tuesday night playing catch-up.
As hard as the Buffalos worked in the second half to get back in the contest, the double-digit deficit they faced proved to be too much as Anderson County went on to record a 59-45 home victory.
“We were never really in the game,” Prairie View coach Tyler Applegate said. “We dug a big hole and could not get out of it. Anderson County shot very well in the first half, and we let them have easy shots. We did a poor job of rebounding on both ends.”
Taylor Brown scored a game-high 19 points. Jordan Kees added 12, Alex Watson five, Ryan Welker four, Keaton Hines three and Cody Phillips two.

If the Prairie View girls’ basketball had any intentions of staging a late rally against Anderson County on Tuesday, the Buffalos needed to focus on doing the little things. Every point, every rebound, every pass became that much more magnified.
In the end, those little things paid off. Prairie View was able to rally from a nine-point deficit to defeat Anderson County 37-34 on its home court. Playing with an increased energy level was the key.
“It is hard to say what was the turning point,” Prairie View coach Ron Price said. “We played more tenacious and hit the boards hard and contested every shot.”
Prairie View had trouble finding the basket during the first three quarters, recording just under two dozen points during that span and trailing 31-22 entering the final quarter. But, key fast-break points and making free throws with the lead on the line helped the team cap off a comeback.

The Prairie View boys’ basketball team went toe-to-toe with Crest, the top seed in the Pleasanton Mid-Season Tournament, for four quarters Tuesday, but in the end, the Lancers had just enough to send the Buffalos to a 50-43 loss.
Prairie View came out strong, taking a 13-9 lead after one quarter. Crest overtook Prairie View by halftime, holding a 24-23 lead, before taking a 30-28 advantage into the fourth quarter. Both squads’ offense lit it up in the final stanza, but the Lancers outscored the Buffalos, 20-15, in the frame to go on to the seven-point victory. Ryan Welker and Taylor Brown both reached double figures for Prairie View (2-6), scoring 13 and 10 points, respectively. Alex Watson and Jordan Kees each chipped in six points, while Cody Phillips and Jay Hoyt each had four.

The defense for the Prairie View girls’ basketball team might have been a little anxious when it came to guarding the ball Tuesday, but it wasn’t for a lack of effort. That intensity displayed by the Buffalos forced Northeast-Arma out of its comfort zone on the offensive end, limiting them to just one field goal in the first half of the contest on its way to a 62-31 victory in the first round of the Pleasanton Mid-Season Tournament.
“Our defense really stepped up and controlled the tempo of the game,” Prairie View coach Ron Price said. “We played good help defense, although we fouled a little too much, but that came from being aggressively wanting the ball and to get them out of their rhythm.”
Aggressive play on the defensive end by Prairie View (4-5) allowed Northeast-Arma to get to the free-throw line 20 times during the first half, but the Buffalos weren’t too concerned as good execution on the offensive end allowed them to build a 29-13 halftime advantage.

Even after building a nine point lead in the first two minutes of the fourth quarter, Prairie View girls’ basketball coach Ron Price knew the Buffalos had to be ready for one more surge from the Wellsville Eagles.
Unfortunately for Prairie View, all Wellsville needed was a couple of baskets to get going Monday evening. The efforts of two Eagle seniors, Madison Chambers and Jordan Dickey, helped Wellsville do just that.
Chambers and Dickey combined for 22 of Wellsville’s 25 points in the fourth quarter to send Prairie View to a gut-wrenching 59-58 home loss in the Pioneer League opener for both squads.
Prairie View (4-4 overall, 0-1 Pioneer League) appeared to have put the wraps on the game with a strong surge that bridged between late in the third quarter into the first couple of minutes in the fourth in which the Buffalos were shooting at a high percentage from the field.
