1944-2010 Sharon R. Jones, 65, Prairie Village, died suddenly Feb. 28, 2010, of a cerebral hemorrhage. Her death came much too soon for all those who are mourning her loss. Sherry, as she was known, was born in Long Beach, Calif., on March 28, 1944, to Robert and Betty Mallon. She spent her earliest years in Paola with her extended family, who operated Wilson and Son Funeral Home. She grew up in Kansas City and graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School before attending William Woods College. Her love of art and her extraordinary sense of style led her to a career in fashion that included modeling, consulting and buying. In 1979, she created the concept of the Personal Shopper for the Jones Store, which ultimately became a valued service offered by fashion stores all across the country. She spent her life dedicated to helping all who came into her presence to become their best selves. She loved her family and friends fiercely, and the memory of her special radiance never will be extinguished. She appreciated beauty, and her homes in Palm Desert, Calif., Edwards, Colo., Chicago, Ill., and Prairie Village reflected her exquisite taste. Her love of travel and books was part of her unquenchable curiosity. She had a passion for movies and was interviewer Charlie Rose’s most faithful TV viewer. She was known for her elegant hospitality and generous spirit. She founded the Rainbow Mental Health Center Auxiliary and was a dedicated volunteer for the Interfaith Hospitality Network of Johnson County. She was a cherished member of the Watering Hole, a group of special women who have been meeting weekly for 32 years. She was married to Robert C. Peters Jr., with whom she had two sons, Tyler and Justin Peters. In 1992, she married W. Richard Jones, who preceded her in death, as did her sister, Patricia McNally. Survivors include her two sons and five grandchildren. A celebration of her life is planned for Saturday at Mission Road Bible Church, 7820 Mission Road, Prairie Village. Her family will receive friends at 4:30 p.m.; a memorial service will follow at 5:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to a project dear to Sherry’s heart, the Johnson County Interfaith Hospitality Network Inc., 11503 S. Strang Line Road, Suite C, Olathe, KS 66062, which provides lodging and support for those who are homeless and in need.
