1914-2010 Beryle M. Toncray, 95, died Feb. 22, 2010, at the Life Care Center in Osawatomie, surrounded by her children and loving caregivers. She was born May 20, 1914, to James E. and Nancy A. Rider Graham on a farm near La Cygne. She was united in marriage to Delbert D. Toncray on March 28, 1933, in Olathe. They became the parents of eight children. The family lived in the New Lancaster and La Cygne areas for several years before moving to a farm near Osawatomie in 1948. After retirement, they moved to Osawatomie. In 1995, she moved to Prairie Place in Paola. In 2007, after suffering from some health problems, she became a resident of Life Care Center in Osawatomie. She was employed at the Osawatomie State Hospital from 1958 to 1977. She worked in the dietary department, and at the time of her retirement she was supervisor of the dining room. The job she enjoyed most was the one of wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to cook, and, although she wasn’t an experienced seamstress, made quilts for her grandchildren. She also loved to garden, plant flowers and to spend time with her children and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband Delbert who died Oct. 9, 1994; three daughters, Maxine Toncray who was killed in a car accident on Dec. 21, 1947, Barbara Adams who passed away Sept. 30, 2009, and Karen Marshall who passed away March 9, 2008; her four older siblings, James Harlan, Gordon Graham, Ruth Graham Hoover and James Graham; and one grandson. She is survived by five children, Bernard L. Toncray of Paola, Kay Adams of Miller, Mo., Winona M. Snider of Paola, Flo A. Hartley and Susie Miller, both of Fontana; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home, 203 Main St., Osawatomie, KS 66064, (913) 755-2114. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Rockville Cemetery, Drexel, Mo. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Chuck Adams, Bret Adams, Jimmy Adams, Randy Adams, Kenny Adams, Scott Snider, Kirk Miller and Darin Henness. Memorials are to Tri-Ko, the American Diabetes Association or Alzheimer’s Association.
