Jumping out to a 23-5 lead in the first quarter, the Spring Hill girls’ basketball team left little drama in its 11th victory of the season Tuesday evening. The Broncos’ offense hit the court running, and the defense did the rest, holding Belton, Mo., to seven points or less in each of the four quarters of basketball on its way to a 61-23 victory. “It was a good win for us and should help us regain some confidence heading into the final stretch,” said Spring Hill coach Clay Frigon. “Our defense set the tone early on and that is what we have to continue to do in the rest of our games.” Spring Hill also got to work its bench into the game, getting points from eight players in moving its record to 11-4. The Broncos continued to roll with a 19-7 run in the second quarter. After allowing 12 points in the first half, the Spring Hill defense was even stingier in the second half as it held Belton to 11 points in the final two frames. Spring Hill held an 11-5 edge in the third quarter and closed out the win with an 8-6 advantage in the fourth quarter. Ashley Miller led the Broncos’ balanced offensive attack with 12 points. Stacey Czereda hit double figures with 10 points. Jami Hodge and Kelsey Carbajo each had eight points. Rhi Lloyd, Ericka Simpson and Mollie Ravnikar scored seven points each. Ashley Schoenhofer had two points. Spring Hill made 25 field goals in the game, including six 3-pointers. The Broncos made five of seven free throws. Belton was held to eight field goals in the game with two 3-pointers. Belton sank five of 10 from the free-throw line.
