An interlocal agreement with Johnson County for bridge construction was approved unanimously by the Miami County Commission on Wednesday afternoon. The bridge is on the border shared by the counties on 215th Street, about 0.2 miles west of Pflumm Road. County Engineer Penny Evans said that the agreement originally was aimed at sharing the cost of a contractor for the bridge’s replacement, which would have cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. She recommended to Johnson County instead that Miami County crews could do all the construction work if Johnson County paid for materials. The commissioners thanked Evans for her creative solution. In other business, the commission on Wednesday: Approved a resolution placing temporary stop signs at the intersection of 351st Street and Winchester Road. This is an effort to make it safer for redirected traffic that normally would travel on John Brown Highway where it meets Pressonville Road, an area that is under reconstruction. Received an update on noxious-weed eradication and approved a county noxious-weed management plan. Appointed Maurice Ball as Noxious Weed Department director for 2010.
