Billy Lane Barcus, the 10-year-old grandson of longtime Miami County outdoorsman Bob Harrington, proudly shows off his first deer. Billy Lane recently went hunting with his father, Bill Barcus. On his second day of hunting, the young marksman was able to take this large doe. Billy Lane’s mother, Jana Barcus, said both she and Bill were raised under the guidance of family members who emphasized hunter safety. Billy Lane has been trained on gun safety since he was born, specifically from Harrington, who Jana said spent hours and hours with his grandson showing him all the different calibers and types of guns, proper handling, gun care, cleaning, storage and everything it takes to enjoy and be safe with firearms. Harrington passed away last year at the age of 83. After Billy Lane shot his deer, he said, “Mom, I bet grandpa is really proud of me.” Jana simply replied, “I know he is, Billy Lane.”
