The Prairie View boys’ basketball team went toe-to-toe with Crest, the top seed in the Pleasanton Mid-Season Tournament, for four quarters Tuesday, but in the end, the Lancers had just enough to send the Buffalos to a 50-43 loss. Prairie View came out strong, taking a 13-9 lead after one quarter. Crest overtook Prairie View by halftime, holding a 24-23 lead, before taking a 30-28 advantage into the fourth quarter. Both squads’ offense lit it up in the final stanza, but the Lancers outscored the Buffalos, 20-15, in the frame to go on to the seven-point victory. Ryan Welker and Taylor Brown both reached double figures for Prairie View (2-6), scoring 13 and 10 points, respectively. Alex Watson and Jordan Kees each chipped in six points, while Cody Phillips and Jay Hoyt each had four. Crest held a big advantage at the foul line, making 16 of 25 foul shots, compared to just two total attempts for Prairie View. Kyle Hammond and Bryan Newton proved to be a tough one-two punch for Crest, scoring 15 and 13 points, respectively. Prairie View played Uniontown in Thursday’s semifinals. The winner advances to play for fifth place at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
