 Joseph C. Smith, 60, Tonganoxie, formerly of Paola, died Aug. 1, 2009, at the University of Kansas Hospital. He was born June 21, 1949, in Lawrence, and was a lifetime area resident. He worked at the General Motors Fairfax assembly plant for 30 years, retiring in 2001. He was a member of the U.A.W. Local 31, Tonganoxie Masonic Lodge, American Legion, and was an avid Harley rider. He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Smith in 1988. He is survived by his mother, Dora M. Smith; two brothers, Rick Smith and Walt Smith; a sister, Karen Meiers; and his good friend, Vinetta Longford.
