KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Price Terrill didn’t go to the newly remodeled Kauffman Stadium just to watch Kansas City Royals players like Billy Butler, David DeJesus, Jose Guillen and Mike Jacobs swing for the fences — the Prairie Village youngster took a few cuts of his own at the Little K.

Price launched some hits, including one blast straight down the left field line, heading toward the 100-foot power alley.

When he took his final swing, driving another towering shot, Price got to circle the bases as his parents, Adam and Nikol, cheered him on.

The Terrills, who live in Prairie Village, are originally from the Louisburg area. The family took in the sights and sounds of the ballpark before the June 14 Royals game against the Cincinnati Reds, the final matchup in a three-game series.

“We did have fun,” Adam Terrill said. “That was my family’s first time at the new K.

“We didn’t do a lot of stuff,” he said. “We were there with our baseball league and got to walk the field before hand. I think my son would have spent a lot of time out in the area, but my wife and daughter were not as interested. It would be a good dad-and-son time out there.”

Hanging out in the outfield plaza offered plenty of entertainment for the whole family, including a new putt-putt golf course, a baseball-themed carousel and a batting cage where young and old alike get to take their cuts against a pitching machine as footage of one of their favorite Royals aces comes up on a video screen.

There is even an arcade, filled with every game imaginable.

For the young people wanting to run off that hot dog, the Royals offer Slugger’s Base Run, where they can test their time from home to first and compare it with that of their favorite current or former Kansas City star. Slugger’s Pitching Mound, where boys and girls get to throw their best fastball and see how it measures up against their favorite Royals, is another popular attraction.

Children also can play to their heart’s content in the playground in the outfield plaza.

Kansas City has honored Royals Hall of Famers George Brett, Frank White and Dick Howser with statues in the plaza. Brett is posed in his classic batting stance, ready to rip a fastball from Yankee Goose Gossage. White is making the pivot at second base, a position he roamed with golden-glove range for the Kansas City Royals. Howser is surveying the action from the top step of the dugout. He managed the Royals to the World Series title in 1985.

The MLB2K9 Game Lounge offers an escape from the sun and a place to fuel up on snacks or cool off with an ice cold beverage.

During Saturday-night games, the Outfield Experience Mainstage offers live music.

So, what about the Royals game itself? Even fans with children can keep track of how Kansas City is doing on the field with viewing provided on flat-screen TV sets throughout the Outfield Experience.

The game experience itself has changed with newly added outfield bleacher seats from which to enjoy the action.

The new Royals Dri Duck Fountain Seats go on sale the day of the game and are the most economical tickets at the ballpark, priced at $7. Plus, the first 100 fans arriving for these seats get a special-edition Royals cap made by Dri Duck.

The seats offer an old-fashioned view of the game from the bleachers. Fans also can take in the beauty of the fountains, one of the Kansas City attractions incorporated into Kauffman Stadium for years.

A huge addition is the crown scoreboard, which at 105 feet tall and 84 feet wide, is the largest in North America.

The new Kauffman Stadium holds 38,177 fans, down from a pre-renovation capacity of 40,077. The stadium had 30 suites before and now offers 36.

Dining and lounge options at the stadium doubled with the Crown Club, the Stadium Club, Diamond Club and the outfield Rivals Sports Bar restaurant.
