Morrisey shot a 75 at Salina Municipal Golf Course in May, claiming the individual Class 2A state title. His best score of the season was a 72, placing him first on the Tri-County Spotlight golf leaderboard. Paola’s Clay Crawford was a consistent player for the Panthers, shooting in the mid-70s most of the season. He was on his game as the matches got bigger, winning a Class 4A regional championship with a 77 at Fort Scott. Crawford overcame a day that began with double bogie, double bogie and a bogie. He shot a 42 on the front nine, but bounced back with a 35 on the back nine. The rain-soaked Paola Invitational came down to a two-man duel between Crawford and Baldwin’s Mason Dick. Tied at 37 on the front nine, Crawford shot a 38 on the back nine to win the title by one stroke. Crawford’s season best — a 74 to win the Ottawa Invitational — placed him second on the leaderboard. Michael Bryson shot an even round of 38 and 38 at the Ottawa Invitational, placing fifth overall with a 76, his lowest score of the season. The score landed him in a tie for third place on the Tri-County Spotlight leaderboard. He also overcame a rough start in the regional tournament with a 47 on the front nine. Bryson finished with a 35, placing fifth with an 82. Crawford and Bryson helped the Panthers to the regional runner-up trophy, qualifying the entire team for state. The two had big days at state as well, ending the season with medals in the toughest field of the season. Crawford and Bryson both carded scores of 78, tying for 18th place in the Class 4A state tournament at El Dorado. Alex Clark of Jayhawk-Linn, Kolbee McKeen of Pleasanton and Drew Kershner of Louisburg also logged season-best scores of 76 this season to place near the top of the leaderboard. McKeen went on to place 18th at state. Kershner shot his 76 for the Louisburg Wildcats during the Frontier League tournament in Paola. There was a three-way tie for seventh place on the leaderboard. Trevor Conner of Jayhawk-Linn, Garrett Lowe of Jayhawk-Linn and Luke Fenske of Louisburg each had a personal best of 79 on the season. Fenske shot his in the Osawatomie Invitational, placing fourth. Four area players tied for the 10th spot on the leaderboard: Zach Bailey of Louisburg, Andrew Barker of Louisburg, Jake Delks of Paola and Cody Madsen of Spring Hill. Each had scores of 80 during the season. Baley turned in his 80 during the Gardner-Edgerton Invitational to open the season, placing fourth. Baker and Delks had 80s in the Ottawa Invitational. Baker placed eighth and Delks 12th. Madsen carded his 80 on Sycamore Ridge in Spring Hill, placing third in his home invitational.
