A. E. “Brownie” Brown Jr., 84, died May 18, 2009, at Olathe Medical Center. He was born Jan. 28, 1925, in Rich Hill, Mo., to A. E. Brown Sr. and Etta Day Woodfin Brown. He attended school in Nevada, Mo. On Oct. 22, 1943, he married Ethel Goins in Nevada. He served as a seaman in the U.S. Navy. They moved to Fort Scott in 1950, and then to Spring Hill in 1963. He barbered in Fort Scott for 13 years and then owned and operated Brownie’s Barber Shop in Spring Hill for 46 years. He loved outdoor activities. Family was very important to him and he will be dearly missed. He was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters. Survivors include his wife, Ethel of the home; son, Terry Brown of Spring Hill; daughter, Donna Bruner of Fort Scott; sister, Bernice Wood of Los Angeles, Calif.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Bruce Funeral Home, 712 S. Webster St., Spring Hill, KS 66083, (913) 592-2244. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. in Fort Scott National Cemetery.
