Mader allowed just one batter to reach base, striking out seven in a 9-0 shutout. Paola was leading 9-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning of the second game when Hanf launched one over the fence with a runner on to put the 10-run rule into effect for an 11-1 victory and the sweep. The Panthers improved to 9-1. “That was great to get the home run and run-rule them,” Hanf said. “I think we are starting to get on a roll. We just need to come out with more intensity from the start in the second game.” Coach Troy Collier challenged his players heading into the home half of the third inning, tied 1-1. His message sunk in, and the Panthers struck for five runs in the frame en route to the run-rule victory. Paola struck first in the opener, taking advantage of two De Soto errors. Allison Wood and Mader reached on errors with two outs. Melanie Golubski made the Wildcats pay with a two-run double to left field, making it 2-0. The two runs were all Mader would need on the afternoon. She retired the first 10 batters before a base runner reached on an error in the fourth inning. Mader finished off her no-hit shutout by retiring 11 in a row. “It was exciting,” Mader said of the no-hitter. “I was happy.” Austin Boehm singled to start the second inning. Courtney Johnson reached on an error. Mallorie Nelson got on base with an error. Boehm and Johnson scored in the frame, making it 4-0. Mader singled, stole a base and scored on a double by Golubski to push the lead to 5-0 in the third inning. Hanf was hit by a pitch in the fourth and scored on a base hit by Kayla Offutt. Mackenzie Hallstrom and Boehm had back-to-back singles in the fifth. Johnson reached on an error. Hanf singled and Paola struck for three runs in the frame to make the final 9-0. Nelson singled and scored in the first inning of the second game as Paola took a 1-0 lead. De Soto tied the game with a single and a double in the top of the second. Nelson, Offutt, Wood, Hallstrom and Boehm singled in the third inning as Paola scored five runs on five hits to break the game open with a 6-1 lead. Offutt singled and scored in the fourth inning. Hanf clubbed a home run in the bottom of the fifth, making it a 10-run lead to end the game for the Panthers at 11-1. Nelson pitched the complete game, allowing one run on three hits. She struck out six.
