He was born Nov. 8, 1955, in Neodesha, Kan. He was the youngest of four children born to Loren Aaron and Vesta Jane Cooper Schoonover. He contracted the measles and chicken pox at the same time when he was 2 years old. He ran a very high fever of 104 to 105 that was not able to be broken for three days, which caused brain damage. He was in the Winfield State Hospital and later moved to Parsons State Hospital and Training Center. He has been served by Tri-Ko, Inc., in Osawatomie since Oct. 7, 1996. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Brenda, who died at a very young age. Survivors include a brother, Steve Schoonover of San Antonio, Texas; a sister, Lucinda Rodriguez of Edna, Texas; two half-brothers, Scott Schoonover of Kansas City, Mo., and Tim Hase of Columbia, Mo.; five half-sisters, Lisa Hase of Austin, Texas, Denise Harris of Kansas City, Mo., Sue Ann Dougherty and Donna Gayle Wedel both of Rock Port, Mo., and Terri Wooten of Tarkio, Mo. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home, 203 Main St., Osawatomie, KS 66064, (913) 755-2114. He will lie in state after 1 p.m. today with visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in the Neodesha Cemetery at 2 p.m. Saturday.
