He was born Nov. 24, 1927, in Boicourt, Kan. He was the youngest of six children born to Percy Lawrence and Ethel Mae Poole Cox. He graduated from Osawatomie High School with the class of 1947. He was united in marriage to Helen Louise Rodgers on April 11, 1948, in Osawatomie. They lived in DeSoto for 10 years, moved to Lawrence in 1958, and then to Ottawa in 2004. They became the parents of three children. He worked for Goodyear Tires for 33 years. He was a member of Union No. 307 with Goodyear. He and his wife also owned and operated E & L Trailer Rental for many years in Lawrence. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ray Cox, and two sisters, Nettie Clearwater and Audry Clearwater. Survivors include his wife, Helen of the home; two sons, Everett Lee Cox of Garnett and Steven Douglas Cox of Ottawa; one daughter, Tina Louise Guzik of Dums, Penn.; two brothers, Vearl Cox of Gardner and Percy Lawrence Cox, Jr. of Parker, Colo.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Burial was in Osawatomie Cemetery. Arrangements were by Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home, P.O. Box 430, Osawatomie, KS 66064, (913) 755-2114.
