James E. Wheeler, 85, Bucyrus, died Feb. 11, 2009, at his home.

Known as Jim, he was born to Chester and Carman Filer Wheeler on April 1, 1923, in Homestead, Okla.

He served as a corporal during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946 with a World War II Victory Ribbon and three Bronze Service Stars.

He married Mary Knecht Vohs on Dec. 23, 1965, in Wichita. In 1970, the family moved to Paola, where he and his wife owned and operated Mary’s Ceramics. In 1988, the family moved to Bucyrus.

He was a member of the Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He loved his family and enjoyed gardening and yard work.

He is preceded in death by a sister and stepson Leon Vohs.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; three daughters, Carol, Gail and Laurel; brother, Thomas; sister Matti; stepdaughters Kay Henry and Ranay Brady; and stepsons Donnie, Ronnie, Steve and Gary Vohs. He was dearly loved by his 32 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Queen of the Holy Rosary Church in Bucyrus. Funeral Mass will be celebrated after the visitation at 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Queen of the Holy Rosary Cemetery. Arrangements are by Penwell-Gabel Louisburg Chapel, 120 S.
