The first time Central Heights and Jayhawk-Linn met this season, the Lady Vikings won in a runaway.

The rematch proved to be closer.

Central Heights and Jayhawk-Linn both put their best feet forward on the defensive end.

In the end, the Lady Vikings again got the best of the Jayhawks, as they took a seven-point lead after the first quarter and were able to survive a late rally by Jayhawk-Linn and pull out a 32-25 victory Tuesday in Richmond.

“Our defense was very good tonight,” Central Heights coach David Clayton said. “Offensively, we were patient and got some good looks.”

Marissa Cox finished with nine points and 14 rebounds. Casey Droddy added nine points.

Central Heights (12-4 overall, 6-0 Pioneer League) took control in the first quarter, limiting Jayhawk-Linn to a Taylor Dawson basket and a Meriel Long free throw.

Long scored nine points to lead the Jayhawks. Dawson and Rockers each scored eight points.

Jayhawk-Linn (14-2, 4-2) was held to 13 points over the first three quarters, but still found itself trailing only by 11 points.

It appeared the Jayhawks had cut the deficit to three points following a 3-pointer with one minute to go, but the basket was waved off.
“We had our chances several times in the fourth quarter,” Jayhawk-Linn coach Charlie Beckman said.

A four of 13 effort from the foul line by the Lady Vikings in the fourth allowed the Jayhawks to remain within striking distance, but again, it was Central Heights who prevailed.
