It was nearly a clean sweep.

The Osawatomie-Paola boys’ swim team used Tuesday’s home swim meet as a tune-up to next Thursday’s league meet, also to be held at the Miami County Family YMCA. And it was first-place finish after first-place finish.

Osawatomie-Paola won 10 of 11 events to claim the team title. Coffeyville Field- Kinley placed second, and Parsons was third in the team standings.

Alex Weatherbie placed first in both the 50- and 100-yard freestyle. He was also part of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay, along with James Teuscher, Kyle Dietrich and Gus Hart.

Teuscher and Hart also brought home gold in individual events — Teuscher in the 500-yard freestyle (5:59.39) and Hart in the 100-yard butterfly (1:05.65).

Stetson Jackson won the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1 minute, 12.52 seconds. He was also part of the winning 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley relays, along with Eli Waddle, Daniel Dorsett and Jared Auten in both events.

Auten won the 200-yard individual medley relay, and Dorsett the 100-yard backstroke.

Teuscher glided through the waters in the 500-yard freestyle, becoming the first Osawatomie-Paola swimmer to finish the event in under six minutes so far this season. He finished in 5 minutes, 59.39 seconds. Nathan Laudan was second in a season-best time of 6:04.53.

Austin Johnson made significant strides in the event, finishing in 7:10.38, a more than 15-second improvement off his previous-best time.

Michael Del Valle (200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke), Kyle Dietrich (100 freestyle), Ryan McKinney (100 freestyle), Jesse Prue (50 freestyle, 100 backstroke) and Joey Clinton (200 freestyle) also swam to season-best times.

Osawatomie-Paola has several swimmers who have swam to a state meet consideration time, but not a state qualifying time. Weatherbie (50- and 100-yard freestyle) and Auten (100 butterfly) qualified for state in December, but Osawatomie-Paola hasn’t qualified any swimmers since. The team didn’t qualify any additional swimmers Tuesday, but will have one more attempt to do so when it takes to its home waters next Thursday for their league meet. The meet starts at 5 p.m.
