Gary Gilbert Carnell, 68, of the Sugar Valley community near Mound City, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, at his home.

He was born June 28, 1940, in Webster City, Iowa, the son of Walter and Irene Busick Carnell. Gary’s father died at an early age, and he was raised by his stepfather, Gilbert Wilson.

He married Oleva Brogdon on May 2, 1959, at Monticello United Methodist Church.

He was a veteran, having served his country with the U.S. Air Force. He was employed with Smith & Loveless as maintenance supervisor.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Barbara Anderson.

Survivors include his wife, Oleva of the home; one son, David Alan Carnell; and three daughters, Pamela Foxworth, Lisa Jones and Sheila Carnell; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were Thursday at the Fontana Cemetery. Arrangements are by Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home, P.O. Box J, Mound City, KS 66056 (913) 352-6101.
