It now may be easier for local seniors with little or no income to buy nutritious food. The East Central Kansas Area Agency on Aging has received a grant from the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services to assist eligible people age 60 and older to apply for help through the Kansas Food Assistance Program, according to an ECKAN news release. The benefits of the program (formerly known as the Food Stamp Program) are completely federally funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The program provides benefits to eligible individuals and families, and anyone 60 and older can get help in pre-screening for eligibility and application assistance through the local Area on Aging, thanks to the SRS grant.
