Lorene A. “Granny” Porubcan, 89, Paola died Tuesday at Olathe Medical Center. She was born March 7, 1919, in Winona Minn., to Antone and Blancha Johnston Peterson. She grew up in Minnesota and graduated from Winona College, where she received her teaching certificate. She taught music and speech in Minnesota, and later in life worked in retail as a jeweler and as a clerk in several department stores. She was married to Robert William Thaldorf for many years and after his passing, to Stanley Porubcan. She moved to Paola three and a half years ago from Sun City, Ariz., to be near her granddaughters. She also resided in Fond du Lac, Wis. She attended Louisburg Baptist Church. She was a joy to her granddaughters and to all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husbands and one sister, Fern Sens. Survivors are her son Robert K. Thaldorf of Princeton, Texas; daughter, Diane Sheimo of Sun City; sisters Vi McDonald of Cumberland, Wis., and Cal Patterson of Sun City; eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Memorial Service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Penwell-Gabel Paola Chapel. Visitation 10 to 11 a.m. She has been cremated. Arrangements are by Penwell-Gabel Paola Chapel, 305 N.
