That is until the fourth quarter. Wellsville tied the game midway through the fourth quarter, but Spring Hill went on a run to close out the 57-49 win. Spring Hill coach Rick O’Neil saw a different team on the court than he saw just days earlier in an upset over previously unbeaten Ottawa. “I did not feel we had the same intensity as we did against Ottawa,” O’Neil said. “That is not to take anything away from Wellsville. The Meyer kid was very good last night.” That was Trenton Meyer to be exact. Through the three quarters, Meyer kept the Eagles in the game and finished with a game-high 28 points in the process. But O’Neil used a full-court press in the fourth quarter and limited Meyer’s touches. The Eagles had just eight points in the final period, and the Broncos finished the game on a 12-4 run to seal the win. “I really did feel that the defense hurt them in the fourth quarter,” O’Neil said of Wellsville. Bronco senior Derrick Koehn was nearly automatic from underneath the basket and scored the bulk of his team-high 19 points in the paint. Colton Ghumm and Mitch Watson each finished with nine points in the win. The lead went back and forth in the first half. Spring Hill jumped out to a 21-12 lead, before Wellsville chipped away and eventually trailed just 27-23 at halftime. The Broncos tried once and again to get some separation and took a 10-point lead midway through the third quarter before the Eagles cut it to two points heading into the fourth.
