William “Bill” Ernest Hiatt, 82, Hillsdale, died Jan. 4, 2009, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. He was born March 19, 1926, to Ernest and Hazel Marie Viar Hiatt in Spring Hill. He graduated from Spring Hill High School in 1944. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and married Mabel Frances Morris on April 20, 1951, in Bentonville, Ark. Mr. Hiatt was a lifelong area resident of Spring Hill. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for Pittman Construction for 20 years and worked for Garney Construction for 19 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Spring Hill American Legion and Local Union No. 101, Kansas City, Mo. His family and grandchildren were very important to him, and they will dearly miss him. He also enjoyed fishing. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard Allen Hiatt, and brother, Harold Hiatt. He is survived by his wife, Mabel; children, Debra Ann Clark and Robert William Hiatt, both of Hillsdale, and Brenda Lea Becker of Spring Hill; siblings, Beulah Manning, Howard Hiatt, Velma Fife, Mary Green, Carol Strausbaugh and Paul Hiatt, all of Spring Hill, Doris Drury of Stockton, Mo., Linda Rogers of Bella Vista, Ark., and Donna Coons of Versailles, Mo.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at the Spring Hill Cemetery. Burial in Spring Hill Cemetery with military honors.
