Miami County residents owe a debt of gratitude to Art Godfrey for his 12 years of service as the District 2 county commissioner. Colleagues cite Godfrey’s business sense, honesty, directness and soft heart as a few of his many attributes. Godfrey has helped lead the county through incredible growth in the past dozen years as urban sprawl from Johnson County continues to push southward. Miami County consistently ranks among the top five fastest growing counties in the state each year, and it takes a steady hand at the wheel, which Godfrey has provided, to guide the county in the right direction. In parting, Godfrey urged commissioners to be wary of squeaky wheels, strive to represent the county as a “whole,” and to leave day-to-day operations to County Administrator Shane Krull and the rest of the county’s professional staff. “... You’re elected to your job to set policy, budget and the direction of the county as a whole,” Godfrey said. Godfrey is a man of integrity who has shown great leadership. The county has benefitted greatly from his service.
