Republican U.S. Senator Sam Brownback, a native of Parker, has taken the first steps toward a 2010 run for governor, filing paperwork Monday with the Kansas Secretary of State’s office to form a campaign committee, which will allow Brownback to begin raising money for the race. The filing comes following a Dec. 19 announcement in which Brownback stated he would not seek a third term in the U.S. Senate. “Today I have taken the first step that will allow me to run for governor,” Brownback said in a written statement Monday. “I will continue to work hard during the coming year in the Senate to find solutions to the serious issues facing our state and the nation and focus on efforts to create jobs at home and grow our Kansas economy.”
