Spring Hill girls’ offense has proven, so far this season, it has the ability to heat up at any time. Saturday was no exception.

Executing an offense to near perfection, in which the Broncos pushed the pace with their transition game, shooters were left wide open for shot after open shot. The Broncos converted many of those opportunities, as they went on to hoist the third-place trophy following a 67-46 victory over host Osawatomie in the Trojan Tip-Off Basketball Tournament.

A big reason for Spring Hill’s success on offense early this season has been the play of Ashley Miller. She dazzled again, finishing with a game-high 19 points. Courtney Swope added 14 points. Ericka Simpson chipped in eight points.

Spring Hill applied defensive pressure on Osawatomie’s ball handlers throughout. The Broncos started to see the effort pay off in the second quarter, as they were able to force the Trojans into committing several turnovers.

Spring Hill put the game away by halftime, grabbing a 34-18 lead at intermission.

For the first three quarters Thursday against St. James Academy, Spring Hill was having trouble finding the basket, scoring just 29 points.

The Broncos came to life in a big way in the fourth quarter, matching their combined point total of the first three quarters, of 29 points. St. James Academy was up for the challenge, however, as both teams put on an offensive display. While the Broncos outscored the Thunder 29-23 in the final quarter, it wasn’t enough as St. James held on for a 69-58 victory.

Miller carried the Broncos offensively, scoring 26 points. Swope and Rhi Lloyd each had seven points.
