Miami County Public Works personnel took to the roads Tuesday when snow and high winds moved into the area, and they will continue until roads are cleared. Snow-laden winds of up to 30 miles per hour began buffeting pedestrians and coating vehicles with ice by late morning, and roads began to turn slick by Tuesday afternoon. Weather conditions grew treacherous by 3 p.m., with reduced visibility and continued flurries. The snowstorm continued past dusk, leaving 3 to 4 inches accumulated in some areas, and Miami County residents woke to find their sidewalks and driveways slippery. But, even before roadways became snow-packed, county crews were out working to make them as safe as possible. On Wednesday, Public Works Director J.R. McMahon said his department’s workers would continue until the job was completed. “We started working at 10 o’clock yesterday (Tuesday), and we worked throughout the night,” he said. McMahon said he anticipated county crews would have the roads cleared by 4 p.m. Wednesday, but that they would have additional cleanup work after that. In all likelihood, he said, the blade operators would be working Wednesday and Thursday, as well. “Then, we think, we’ll be back on normal operations on Friday,” McMahon said.
